About the compositions

When I was young, it was easy for me to write music. For long periods of time, I basically wrote one song every day after school. Over the years, this inspiration has faded, and my desire to create decreased.

Instead, my creativity has mainly been directed towards arranging, accompanying and producing music together with other musicians, artists and choirs. This has been very rewarding and meaningful, but I realized that I started loosing my own expression and tone. Recently, I have therefor become increasingly curious of what my own expression sounds like, today.

In 2021, I have challenged myself to write 12 Short Compositions. The compositions are based on piano which is my main instrument. Later on, I am arranging these for different instruments and smaller orchestras, as several of the compositions surely will reach further and sound better in other colors and sounds.

But first, I want to get to know the compositions a little bit better and discover what they are about, for me. The advantage of instrumental music is that there are no linguistic barriers and that everyone is free of their personal interpretation. No one has prerogative or copyright.

I would probably present myself as a musical generalist who enjoys the work of different genres and in various constellations. As you will notice, my compositions consists of a mix of so-called classical music and afro music. You will also notice that the interpretation of the compositions may benefit from a hint of improvisation and openness, in terms of both form and instrumentation.

This time, the music is instrumental, but perhaps I will also write lyrics or compose the music to others lyrics. But that is definitely another direction and expression. The first step is on the journey is the 12 Short Compositions in 2021!
